Zoo in Chiang Mai, Thailand, set to introduce two new giant pandas sent from China.

Get ready for double the adorable, as Chiang Mai Zoo gears up to welcome two new pandas all the way from China! This exciting news commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations, with the pandas expected to move in later this year. Let's dive into the details about the upgrade plans, arrival date, and a little history.

Facility Upgrades and Design

The upcoming facilities for the pandas are budgeted at a whopping 110 million baht. This cash influx will pave the way for a jaw-dropping layout, designed to offer a spacious and natural environment that promotes the pandas' well-being and encourages their usual behavior[2]. The design process has already kicked off, with meticulous attention given to the habitat to ensure it's a cozy home for these soon-to-be residents[2].

Panda Arrival Timeline

Although the official arrival date has yet to be confirmed, we're all eagerly waiting for the pandas to join us later in 2025[1][2]. So, stay tuned for more updates!

Panda Pal History

Did you know Chiang Mai Zoo previously held two enchanting pandas, Xuang Xuang and Lin Hui, who were gifts from our Chinese friends? These adorable bears were quite a hit, attracting over seven million visitors during their stay and even giving birth to a little one named Lin Bing in 2009[2].

After growing up and reaching her teenage years, Lin Bing was returned to the Giant Panda Research and Conservation Centre in Chengdu, China, as part of a mutual agreement in 2013[2]. Regretfully, both Xuang Xuang and Lin Hui have moved on to their next adventure—Xuang Xuang in 2019[2] and Lin Hui in 2023[2].

With the upcoming arrival of the new panda pair, Chiang Mai Zoo is set to make a splash once more, all while celebrating the continued partnership between Thailand and China. Stay tuned for further updates on these jade giants!
