Renowned Short Story Festival to Grace Old City Baths on August 16th

We cordially invite you to attend a Short Story Festival in collaboration with the "freischwimmer" group, scheduled for the 16th of August at the Old City Baths. The event promises an array of accomplished authors from the Lower Rhine region, including one special voice.

In conjunction with the festival, we are organizing a short story competition to encourage literary expression within the region. The competition is open to both seasoned and aspiring writers residing in the Lower Rhine who are at least 16 years old.

Entrants are asked to submit short stories no longer than ten standard pages (18,000 characters including spaces) for consideration. Both published and unpublished works are acceptable, and each participant may only submit one entry. The content is free to choose, with an aim to discover the literary diversity of the Lower Rhine. Experimental forms and underrepresented topics are welcome.

Cash awards of €300 (three prizes of €50 each) and €100 will be given, in addition to a performance opportunity worth €250 as part of the festival. Submissions should be emailed as a PDF to our designated email address by June 3rd.

For those seeking opportunities to showcase their writing talents in the Lower Rhine region, local cultural organizations, online platforms like Writers Digest, Poets & Writers, and local libraries and community centers are potential sources of information on writing competitions in the area. Alternatively, you may organize your own competition by establishing eligibility criteria, outlining submission requirements, deciding on prizes, and promoting the event through local media, libraries, community centers, and social media platforms.

Participants of the Short Story Festival, in collaboration with "freischwimmer" group at Old City Baths, can partake in a concurrent short story competition, open to both seasoned and upcoming writers from the Lower Rhine aged 16 and above. Entrants can win cash awards of €300 or €100, performance opportunities worth €250, and publications in the home-and-garden section of local lifestyle magazines as part of the festival promotion.
