A New 'Forever Stone' Discovered at Crater of Diamonds State Park

Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, known for its rich diamond history, has once again yielded a significant find. This year alone, at least 366 diamonds have been registered, with eleven of them weighing over one carat each.

One of the most remarkable discoveries was made by Micherre Fox, a 31-year-old New Yorker, who went to the park with the hope of finding a diamond for her engagement ring. On the final day of her trip, Fox found a white diamond at the park's search field.

The diamond, about the size of a human canine tooth and weighing 2.3 carats, has been named the "Fox-Ballou Diamond" in honor of Fox and her partner's last names. Fox described it as the most 'diamond-y diamond' she had ever seen.

Fox's diamond search lasted for about three weeks in the summer heat. She confirmed the identity of the diamond with park staff and later found out that it was the third-largest found at the park so far this year.

The diamond hunt at Crater of Diamonds State Park is a hands-on experience, as Fox emphasized. She stated that hard work is essential in solving problems, even in a marriage, which she compared the diamond search to.

Since 1906, over 75,000 diamonds have been discovered at the park, with notable finds such as the "Uncle Sam" diamond (40.23 carats) in 1924 and the "Strawn-Wagner" diamond (3.03 carats) in 1990. The diamonds found average about 0.25 carats each, mostly smaller stones.

The "Uncle Sam" diamond was later placed in the National Museum of Natural History. Fox believes she has found her 'forever stone' and considers the diamond search an invaluable journey.

Each year, Crater of Diamonds State Park attracts hopeful prospectors from all over the world. Fox, who had completed graduate school before going to Arkansas to find her diamond, is just one of the many who have been drawn to the park's allure.

Upon finding her diamond, Fox dropped to her knees and cried. She described the moment as life-changing and a testament to the magic that can be found in the park.
