Unveiling the Best Foldable Bikes: ADAC's Test Results (With a Twist!)

Tests conducted by ADAC on folding and folding tires reveal unexpected outcomes

Foldable bikes, a hit among urban commuters and camping enthusiasts, offer the perfect blend of convenience and practicality. Yet, they've garnered some surprising results in ADAC's recent test.

This test evaluated eight models, ranging from an affordable 535 euros to a luxurious 2969 euros, focusing on their performance, handling, safety, durability, and compliance with harmful substance regulations in handlebars and saddles.

The Great Differentiation

The ADAC spotlighted "big differences" and sometimes "clear weaknesses" among these bikes. Criticisms included weak brakes, overpriced models, and even a frame break in one model. Despite its hefty price tag of 2879 euros, this model only received a "sufficient" rating.

Some models struggled with braking, especially in wet conditions, while the cheapest model displayed braking deficiencies as well.

The Champions Emerge

The "Brompton G Line" (2969 euros) emerged as the winner, commended for its exceptional riding performance, high stability, and adaptability across different terrains. It comes in three frame sizes to cater to various body sizes. However, the testing panel expressed disappointment over the absence of side stands and lighting at its test price.

Also acclaimed "good" were the "Riese und Müller Birdy touring" (2898 euros), "Coast-bikes Hightide No.03 8-Gang" (749 euros), and "Dahon Mariner i7U" (1099 euros).

The ADAC highlights that the best choice isn't always the test winner, as each folding or collapsible bike is optimized for a specific purpose. For instance, someone traveling on rough terrains requires a distinct model compared to a commuting rider also needing easy transportation.

So, there's a foldable bike for every purpose and journey!

The Commission has not yet adopted a decision on the application of this Regulation regarding the diverse lifestyle choices, such as the preference for home-and-garden improvements, expansion of gadgets, and advancements in technology, might influence the process of selecting the perfect foldable bike, whether it be for urban commuting, camping, or navigating rough terrains, as highlighted by ADAC's test results. Interestingly, the "Brompton G Line," though excelling in riding performance and adaptability, lacks side stands and lighting, which could be addressed to cater to the growing demand for advanced technology features in home-and-garden gadgets.
