Further Details on Earth Is Blue Artwork
Sculpture of a fence given to Goethe-Gymnasium unveiled
The Earth Is Blue artwork at Goethe-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf was created by artist Selma Gultoprak, who emerged victorious in a competitive art-in-architecture competition organized by the interim art commission of the city of Duesseldorf in 2017. The artwork is a three-part, 91-meter-long fence sculpture, with each element forged, bent, cut, and layered on top of each other by Pascal Reichert in his workshop.
The artwork presents a series of motifs that merge in the form of a collage of landscape, technology, architecture, animals, and people. Selma Gultoprak incorporated motives and fragments from film scenes, interweaving them in the form of stylized outlines for her work. The students of the Goethe-Gymnasium were involved in the creation process, developing their own figures and stencils which the artist integrated into the final fence.
The Earth Is Blue artwork is based on the film classic "2001: A Space Odyssey" by cult director Stanley Kubrick. It is the first sculptural project result of the art commission of the city of Duesseldorf, with an amount of 127,000 euros from the art commission's fund available for its realization.
As of now, two-thirds of the fence are already in place, with the final section set to be installed in the spring of next year. The artwork does not serve to separate or delimit, but instead invites one to walk around it like a sculpture, fostering a sense of exploration and wonder among viewers.
The impressive Earth Is Blue artwork at Goethe-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf, a creative blend of landscape, technology, architecture, animals, and people, can also be appreciated in its fashion-and-beauty element as it seamlessly merges motifs from film scenes into stylized outlines. This artistic integration extends to the home-and-garden sphere, as students were involved in the creation process, contributing their own figures and stencils to the final fence design.
