Romania's Villages to Host Museum Night Celebrations in September
On September 6, 2025, the Da' De Ce Association will host the third edition of the Night of Museums in Villages in Romania. This cultural event, dedicated to rural heritage and communities, invites all museums and collections in rural areas to participate.
The Night of Museums in Villages offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore local collections, village stories, and meet artisans. The event will feature exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, and nighttime events, providing an immersive experience into Romania's rich rural culture.
As part of this initiative, several projects have been planned to develop five living cultural ecosystems in rural areas. One of these ecosystems will be in Băița, Bihor County, where the Teacher's Museum's permanent exhibition will be rethought. In Enisala and a second locality in Tulcea County, children from disadvantaged backgrounds will explore local collections through creative workshops. In Densuș and Peșteana, a sociological study with educational workshops and participatory mappings will take place.
The preservation of rural heritage, strengthening community cohesion, promoting cultural tourism, and educational programs are common objectives for such rural cultural events. By highlighting traditional crafts, architecture, and folklore, these initiatives aim to engage villagers actively to foster pride, identity, and social bonds while preserving and sharing their cultural patrimony.
In addition to these projects, the Night of Museums in Villages will provide national promotion, support in organizing activities, and inclusion in the event's official platform for participating museums. Entry to the event will be free, making it accessible to all.
For the most recent official program or specific planned activities for this third edition, it might be necessary to consult Romanian cultural ministry announcements or local heritage organizations involved in the event. In Crasna and Marin, traditional interiors and portraits will be documented and digitally archived, as part of a community campaign to save authentic households. A training program in museum studies will also be conducted in Felmer and Șercaia for rural collection managers, and lobbying support for a museum collection seeking a new local administrator will be provided.
Join us on September 6, 2025, for an unforgettable journey through Romania's rural heritage and communities during the third edition of the Night of Museums in Villages.
