Rising Count of Bicyclists Within the Community
In the city of Gießen, a new initiative has been launched to clear away non-roadworthy and abandoned bicycles from various locations. Starting from the 43rd calendar week (20.10.), the city will begin removing these bikes marked by city police employees.
The areas being focused on include the train station, Newstead Gate, Berlin Square, and their surrounding vicinities. Numerous "junk bikes" have been found in these areas, obstructing bike parking facilities and causing inconvenience to cyclists and pedestrians alike.
Broken and abandoned bicycles have been spotted on bike racks, throughout the train station area, and even on the pedestrian bridge from the Old Wetzlar Way to the train station plaza. The facilities at the parking garage on Lahnstraße have also been affected.
The city urges cyclists to pay attention to signs and use designated parking areas for their bikes. To retrieve a bike, proof of ownership is required. This can be a photo, bike passport, purchase receipt, frame number, or any other form of identification.
Owners of removed bicycles have two months to retrieve their bikes from Stadtreinigung- und Fuhramt, Schlachthofstraße 40 in 35398 Gießen, without claim to damages. Appointments can be scheduled with the city police by calling 0641 306-1932.
This action is not only aimed at improving the city's appearance but also at ensuring that bike parking facilities are available for those who need them. The city continues to carry out actions like this regularly to maintain a clean and functional cityscape.
It's important to note that this action does not apply to roadworthy bicycles that are properly parked in designated areas. The city encourages all citizens to respect the rules and use the provided facilities to ensure a smooth and safe city for everyone.
