Restored farmhouse of remarkable artistry and size, previously owned by Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, now available for purchase in the Cotswolds.

In the picturesque village of Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have decided to part ways with Kitesbridge Farm, a historic property they purchased last year for £15 million. The couple, known for their penchant for "flipping houses," have moved on to a larger, more contemporary estate in the same area to accommodate Portia's horses, which were flown in from California.

Details of the Property

Kitesbridge Farm, originally built in the 1700s, boasts a six-bedroom main house, a two-bedroom guest house, and a separate barn with a pub. The estate also includes an indoor heated swimming pool, a home gym, and a potential helicopter hangar conversion into a padel court for exercise and leisure.

The property's gardens have been landscaped to maintain a natural and organic feel, with a kitchen garden, lawns, paddocks, and outdoor spaces for al fresco dining and living. The decoration and furniture throughout the house are elegant, simple, and neutral, with flooring alternating between stone slabs and ancient timber.

The house's most notable feature is a TV large enough to be measured in square feet in the kitchen-diner. There are dashes of flair in some rooms, such as a green boot room adorned with floral wallpaper on walls and ceiling. Exposed beams and brickwork add plenty of character to the house, and the house's secluded location adds to its charm.

The Renovation

The couple spent months and millions transforming Kitesbridge Farm further. The 'restoration of rare artistry and scale' was completed in a fraction of the estimated 12-18 months, thanks to a team of 70 builders and craftspeople.

John Betjeman, a renowned English poet, described Kitesbridge Farm as a "pastoral scene" and praised its magical beauty. Penny Churchill wrote about Kitesbridge Farm in a previous article, praising its secluded location and ingenious transformation.

The Sale

The house, initially marketed for £12.5 million, is now on sale for £22.5 million, making it one of the most expensive homes for sale in the Cotswolds. The farm's significant increase in value in a few months raises questions about the added value in the renovation.

The party barn at Kitesbridge Farm has its own pub and sits above a heated five-car garage. The house was described by Savills, the estate agency that marketed the property, as "a unique and beautiful country estate of exceptional quality."
