Refurbished Flower Beds Spotlighted in Benckiserpark
In a commendable upcycling project, six raised beds have been installed in Benckiser Park, Pforzheim. This initiative, a collaboration between the City of Pforzheim, the Volksmission, and Q-Prints&Service GmbH, has transformed the former school fence of Nordstadt School into a sustainable community gardening space.
The raised beds, located in front of the Benckiser Hall, are a testament to the power of collaboration and sustainability. They are of different heights to accommodate both regular and wheelchair users, making them accessible to all members of the community.
The beds are jointly managed and maintained by the city and the Volksmission. Interested individuals can participate in maintaining or using the raised beds by:
- Contacting the Pforzheim city administration or specifically the department responsible for parks and green spaces to inquire about volunteering or membership in the community gardening group.
- Looking for local urban gardening groups or environmental organizations active in Benckiser Park.
- Attending community meetings or outreach events related to urban gardening projects.
- Checking local social media groups or community boards in Pforzheim for invitations to get involved with such projects.
For those interested in planting the raised beds with herbs, strawberry plants, and other plants, contact can be made via [email protected].
Thomas Schäfer, project manager at Grünwerk, a part of the "BIWAQ WIN.Pf - Perspectives promote" funded neighborhood management at Q-Prints&Service, will monitor the beds throughout the year and provide support as needed. Sandra Heitkamp, head of the Parks and Gardens and Civil Engineering Department, praised the project as a successful example of upcycling.
Upcycling refers to the creation of new objects from old products, and this project is a prime example of its potential. The installation was carried out in a sustainable manner, with the former school fence being upcycled to create the raised beds.
Matthias Brandtner, the pastor and community leader of the Volksmission, supports the project wholeheartedly. This collaboration not only provides a beautiful community gardening space but also promotes sustainability and community engagement in Pforzheim.
The raised beds, beautifully located in front of the Benckiser Hall, serve as a symbolic testament to collaboration, sustainability, and community engagement within the home-and-garden realm. By participating in maintaining or using these accessible raised beds, individuals can contribute to a lifestyle that values shared resources and environmental responsibility.
