Ramón García: More Than Just a Familiar TV Face

Meet Ramón García, a TV stalwart gracing our screens for a staggering 35 years! You might recognize him from his regular slot ringing in the New Year, a task he's accomplished an impressive 15 times on our network alone. This year marks his fifteenth season helming Grand Prix Summer. It's no secret that Ramón is a popular figure, but there are a few things about him that you might not know. For instance, did you know he was a weightlifting champ during his adolescence? Or that he started his career as a DJ in venues owned by his parents?

Recently, interviewer David Broncano had a chat with Ramón at the presentation of New Year's Eve 2025 on our website. It was here that Ramón, a regular New Year's Eve face on TVE, passed the baton to Broncano and Lalachus. Ramón shared that watching them on TVE had been a tradition for him, and he even surprised Broncano with a large tureen of marmitako, a testament to their camaraderie.

While his sportsmanship may not be as widely known, Ramón shared that in his youth, he won the Vizcaya weightlifting championship. He lifted 52.5 kg in the snatch and 85 kg in the clean and jerk, impressively for someone weighing around 70 kg at the time. After his win, he decided to hang up his weightlifting shoes.

Ramón also recalled his early jobs, which involved washing glasses and spinning tunes as a DJ in his parents' discotheques. A Rolling Stones fan, he enjoyed playing funky music, though he jokingly admitted that he was no dancer himself.

In a less glitzy side of his career, Ramón hosts a program in Castilla La Mancha aimed at keeping company, especially for the elderly. He expressed his concern about the rising tide of loneliness, especially among the elderly, and advocated for more attention and care to be given to them. Ramón believes that grandparents, who contributed significantly to shaping Spain, have often been neglected in recent times. He emphasized the importance of honoring and caring for our seniors while they're still with us, noting that they've earned our gratitude and respect. Despite his busy schedule, Ramón's heartwarming mission continues to win him emotional thanks from those he's able to help.

During his youth, Ramón's passion for fitness led him to win the Vizcaya weightlifting championship, making him an exceptional individual even before his career in television. Nowadays, away from the glitz of the red carpet, Ramón hosts a program in Castilla La Mancha, working diligently to minimize the average lifestyle issues faced by the elderly, such as loneliness and neglect.
