Preparing for the Global Children's Day Celebration
In 2025, Wiesbaden's playgrounds are set for an exciting transformation, with the play ship Eleonorenanlage, Alfred-Delp-Straße, and Warmer Damm among the locations receiving new equipment. A total of 995,000 euros has been allocated for these new acquisitions.
The responsibility for the cleanliness of Wiesbaden's playgrounds was handed over to the ELW in 2020. Since then, the ELW has ensured that children can play in a clean and well-maintained environment, all year round. The ELW team, led by Boubakar Azzaoui, cleans 157 Wiesbaden playgrounds regularly, with some being cleaned up to five times a week.
Every week, employees of the Green Office check the condition of the playgrounds, perform maintenance, and ensure the functionality of the play equipment. Small repairs, such as replacing swing seats, tightening screws, or filing down split wooden beams, are made immediately. On a larger scale, defective components are repaired every three months, and a main inspection is conducted on each playground once a year.
The ELW, along with the "Clean Hessen" initiative, has put up posters on 11 popular playgrounds to raise awareness about litter. Littering is discouraged, especially where children play, and there are trash cans available on every playground in Wiesbaden. However, despite these measures, common findings on Wiesbaden's playgrounds include cigarette butts, glass shards, bottle caps, syringes, used condoms, and dog waste.
In addition to the regular cleanings and repairs, new attractions are being added to several playgrounds. A carousel is being installed at Kochbrunnenplatz, and a play tower is being installed on Hauptstraße. These additions are part of the 635,000 euros spent on new acquisitions for Wiesbaden's playgrounds in 2024, with an additional 635,000 euros allocated for similar purposes in 2025.
The current inspection found all play equipment to be functional. The ELW works together with colleagues from the Parks Department to maintain Wiesbaden's playgrounds, ensuring that they remain safe and enjoyable for all children.
