Plant Globe Flowers and Tulips Now for Spring Bloom
Autumn is the perfect time to plant globe flowers and tulips. Before you start, ensure your bulbs are in good condition and follow these tips for a vibrant spring display.
For a variety of colours and heights, consider other low-growing globe flower bulbs like allium, muscari (grape hyacinth), and chionodoxa (glory-of-the-snow).
Before planting tulips, prepare and store bulbs properly. Choose undamaged ones, free from spots or disease. Larger bulbs, 4 cm and above, guarantee stronger stems and larger flowers. Smaller bulbs may not bloom in the first year or produce weak buds. Those less than 2 cm result in low stalks with small buds. The bulb's base should have root initials but no sprouted shoots.
Purchase bulbs right before planting to prevent drying out or premature sprouting. Inspect each bulb; the skin should be clean, smooth, and free of cracks, rot, or mold. Opt for firm and heavy bulbs with no soft spots or damage.
By selecting the right bulbs and preparing them properly, you'll ensure a beautiful spring garden filled with globe flowers and tulips. Happy planting!
