In recognition of their efforts towards a tidy city, Düsseldorf City Hall bestows Gold Plaques upon three recipients: Municipal Kindergarten Braunsberger Street, AWO Active and Neighborhood Club Wersten, and cultural space 'Cultoris'. Additionally, the diligent sanitation workers are honored with certificates and individual cash awards of 400 euros for their dedication to the city's cleanliness.

"Performing as a Tradition"

In advance of the Dreck-weg-Tag 2024 this coming Sunday, Mayor Stephan Keller praised the commendable civic engagement of Düsseldorf residents for maintaining a clean and well-kept cityscape. Keller emphasized that clean cities promote overall well-being and contribute to a high quality of life in the city.

The Dreck-weg-Tag event, which is jointly organized by Pro Düsseldorf, aims to mobilize over 10,000 participants to clean the city this year. Renate Böhm, chairman of Pro Düsseldorf, emphasized the effort's significance, while acknowledging that there are always individuals who go above and beyond in such endeavors. These groups are recognised with the 'Golden Broom' award.

One such group is a kindergarten on Braunsberger Street, which has participated in the Dreck-weg-Tag for ten years. Initially, they focused on cleaning streets and outdoor areas, but now extend their efforts to include litter collection in Hasseler Forest. Director Simone Scheffler stated that the Dreck-weg-Tag has become a deeply-rooted tradition for them.

The Aktiv- and neighborhood center in Wersten has been cleaning their premises since 1980, and the Dreck-weg-Tag has been a fixed date in their calendar for the past 24 years. They mobilize children, youth, and the community under the slogan "For a clean Wersten-Southeast" to clean their premises, surrounding streets, and sports field.

Heiko Jäkel's cultural space Cultoris, located on Duisburger Street since October 2022, has become a vital hub for the neighborhood due to the Dreck-weg-Tag. Jäkel remarked on the unexpectedly high response and level of engagement from local residents.

While additional details about the 'Golden Broom' award and the specifics of the Dreck-weg-Tag event are not available, it is clear that these initiatives encourage and recognize the civic-minded engagement of Düsseldorf residents in maintaining a clean and well-kept city.

The Dreck-weg-Tag event, organized by Pro Düsseldorf, not only mobilizes thousands to clean the city but also recognizes groups like the Braunsberger Street kindergarten, who extend their efforts to include home-and-garden areas such as Hasseler Forest. Mayor Stephan Keller's praise of the city's cleanliness reflects the impact of such lifestyle changes on the overall well-being and quality of life in Düsseldorf.
