Navigating Cold Climes: Essential Tips We Provide
Polestar Winter Driving Tips and the Iconic Swedish Gold
Polestar, the electric performance brand, is offering valuable insights for driving an electric vehicle (EV) efficiently during the winter months. Joakim Rydholm, Polestar's chassis development manager, shared his expertise at an electromobility driving technology event.
One of the key features in the Polestar Plus Pack is a special heat pump, designed to improve heating efficiency and increase range in colder temperatures. However, when the battery is too cold, a snowflake symbol appears on the screen, indicating that the battery is unable to use all its power.
To combat this, Polestar vehicles come equipped with a preconditioning function. This allows the car to be preheated before starting, saving battery power. Scheduling preconditioning ensures the battery heats up and reaches an optimal temperature before starting the journey.
Rydholm emphasized the importance of precise energy recuperation, optimized acceleration and braking techniques, and maintaining steady speeds to improve the range of a Polestar in winter. He also advised against sudden acceleration and braking in winter conditions, as this can lead to a rapid drain on the battery and compromise safety.
In addition to these tips, Rydholm suggested activating eco mode, using eco climate control, and maintaining eco tire pressure to optimize the car's range in winter. He also recommended checking tire pressure regularly in winter conditions, as drops in temperature can cause a drop in tire pressure.
Preparation is key when driving in winter, especially on less frequented roads. A winter kit should include essentials such as a blanket, shovel, flashlight, reflective vest, warm jacket, gloves, hat, and an inflated and checked tire pressure.
Polestar's Swedish heritage is reflected in its iconic colour, Swedish Gold. This shade, closely linked to the brand, evokes warmth, luxury, and Scandinavian charm. The origin and evolution of Swedish Gold as a colour are explored in this article, with a focus on its connection to Swedish culture and the brand.
To save energy for heating the car, it's advisable to keep a Polestar in a garage or cover it with an ice-resistant cover. Additionally, adding a fast-charging station as a stop on a long trip can ensure that the battery is heated to the optimal charge level before arrival.
Winter is unpredictable, and it's essential to be prepared for any scenario. By following these tips and being well-equipped, you can enjoy a safe and efficient winter journey in your Polestar.
