A Royal Haul: What King Charles III Got for His Coronation and Subsequent Trips

Coronation Gift Selection: Rolls-Royce Automobile Presented to King Charles - Monarch Charles acquires a Rolls-Royce for his coronation ceremony.

Welcome to the grand giving and getting of the British royal family, where King Charles III (76) has been adding some luxurious items to his collection. The latest addition? A shiny new Rolls-Royce, courtesy of the King of Bahrain. This lavish vehicle is not for personal use but for official purposes like state events, as revealed by the British news agency PA.

Remember Charles' coronation two years ago? He received quite an eclectic mix of gifts from various heads of state, organizations, and state visits. His Rolls-Royce isn't the only 2020-2023 gift.

From Germany, Charles snagged a feathered crown, perfume, hiking boots, cufflinks, a sword, several plants, and even a leather-bound book with exchanged letters between Queen Elizabeth II and US President Dwight D. Eisenhower (gift from then-US President Joe Biden). In March 2023, Charles' first state visit as king took him to Germany. During this visit, he received a clock, an insect hotel, and a CD/DVD set of Ludwig van Beethoven.

Not to be outdone, Heir apparent Prince William (42) and his wife Princess Kate (43) received snorkeling equipment during a Caribbean tour. Their trip wasn't all smooth sailing, as they faced protests against the royals during the 2022 journey.

Official gifts are not considered personal property of the royals. They can be worn and used, and cannot be sold or exchanged, instead becoming part of the royal collection.

Bonus Facts:

  • During King Charles III’s first state visit as monarch to Germany in March 2023, he also received a large photograph of himself and the Duke of Edinburgh on their first visit to Germany (from President Frank-Walter Steinmeier), a rose tree, a wooden insect 'hotel,' a Beethoven CD/DVD collection, and a bottle of port wine (from a joint military unit).
