The city of Lünen is set to open its doors to a variety of historical landmarks as part of the "Day of Open Heritage" on Sunday, 14th September, 2025. This nationwide action day, coordinated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection, aims to raise awareness of the value of historical buildings.

One of the participating landmarks is Villa Urbahn, located on Graf-Adolf-Straße. Designed by Anton Huber in 1925, this protected monument has been a treasure trove of local history since it houses the Museum of the City of Lünen. Villa Urbahn will be open to visitors on Saturday, 13th September, and Sunday, 14th September, from 10 am to 6 pm. Guided tours will be offered, and a children's painting workshop will be held on the Heritage Day.

Another participating landmark is the former canteen of the Gewerkschaft Eisenhuette Westfalia on Huettenallee. This industrial building, dating back to around 1870, is one of the oldest industrial plants in Lünen, founded in 1826. Visitors can access the restored building on Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm, and insights into the history of the site, now part of the Erlebnisreich Campus, will be available. Drinks will be available on site, and additional entertainment includes musical performances in the style of around 1860. Note: Access to the buildings at Alte Schule Alstedde is not barrier-free.

The 1865 ensemble with school building, teacher's residence, stable, and school garden is a rare example of the so-called "one-room school". The Alte Schule Alstedde on Alter Kirchweg is another participating landmark. Guided tours will be offered at Alte Schule Alstedde on the Heritage Day, and the school garden can be freely visited. Coffee and cake will also be available for visitors.

Lastly, the Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule on Holtgrevenstraße will open its protected building part on Sunday. The building houses conference and event rooms.

For further information about these landmarks and others participating in the "Day of Open Heritage", visitors can refer to the official app or visit the website www.tag-des-offenen-denkmals.de. The theme for this year's event is "Priceless: invaluable or irreplaceable?".
