Luxury fashion designer unveils private suite at Cape Town's iconic Mount Nelson Hotel
Thebe Magugu, the acclaimed South African fashion designer and LVMH Prize winner, is set to make a significant impact in both the fashion and hospitality industries with the launch of Magugu House Cape Town. This curated retail and cultural space will be co-created with StudioLandt and will be located within Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel in Cape Town.
The designer suite and retail space, showcasing limited-edition pieces, archival garments, and accessories from Magugu's collections, is slated to open to the public from 10 November 2025. The launch marks a new chapter in the partnership between Magugu and Mount Nelson Hotel.
The Thebe Magugu Suite, occupying two floors within the historic hotel, will feature a striking lobby, lounge, dining area, and a cocktail cabinet. The king-size bedroom boasts patterned fabrics and opens onto a balcony overlooking the hotel's grounds. The upper terrace offers breathtaking views of Table Mountain, Lion's Head, and the hotel's palm-lined entrance.
The collaboration will bring Magugu's distinctive Afro-modernist vision to one of Cape Town's most iconic hotels, further underscoring Cape Town's growing reputation as a creative hub.
In addition to the retail space, Magugu House Cape Town will host a variety of events, screenings, and exhibitions, celebrating African design, literature, and craft. The space will also feature books and objects that reflect Magugu's unique style and influence in the South African and global fashion scene.
This is not the only collaboration for Magugu. Aman, a luxury hotel chain, has initiated a collaboration with Magugu for the opening of a designer suite and a retail space at Aman New York, scheduled for December 2025.
The project, which involves the redesign of an entire historic wing of Mount Nelson Hotel, is being reported by Olivia Palamountain. The Thebe Magugu Suite will join Belmond's Signature Suites and Villas collection and will be available for booking from December 2025.
