Magdeburg's nighttime ban follows an initiative by the city council, with Mayor Simone Borris publicly expressing her support for the measure.
Other municipalities in the state have voiced restraint on the issue. Anhalt-Bitterfield appealed to the residents' sense of consideration, while Dessau-Roßlau highlighted the assumption that most citizens are aware of the benefits of hedgehogs and feel responsible for their protection.
