Get ready, Düsseldorf! From June 6-8, 2025, Dokomi, Germany's ultimate anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture extravaganza, will take over the city. This year, over 200,000 enthusiasts are expected to immerse themselves in the colorful, crazy universe that is Dokomi.

A Sea of Cosplay and Characters

Walk around Düsseldorf-Stockum, and you'll quickly spot something unusual this weekend. Sailor Moon, Ruffy, and Son Goku are no longer cartoon characters on your screen. They've come to life at Dokomi, the largest convention dedicated to anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture in Germany.

Taking cosplay to the next level, visitors flock to the event dressed as their favorite characters. And it's not just about the quick snap for Instagram – shared passion for these Japanese comics often leads to connections made on the spot.

A Labor of Love: Stunning Costumes

A handful of visitors catch your eye, not because of their costumes' eye-catching design but due to their meticulous detail and craftsmanship. Angelika Pawletko, for example, sporting a Digimon costume that took her four months to make, is a testament to the dedication and love these cosplayers pour into their creations.

The Unmissable Costume Contest

If you're looking for a show-stopping spectacle, head over to the costume contest in Hall 16. Spectators fill the seating rows to witness cosplayers strut their stuff, their creative costumes taking center stage. This is more than just a competition; it's an opportunity for creators to exhibit their hard work, and for the audience to revel in the artistry.

More Than Just Costumes

Besides the impressive cosplay, Dokomi offers an array of experiences, whether you're a fan of manga, gaming, or Japanese food. Sales booths brimming with plush Pokémon, glow swords, and fan merchandise line the halls, taking you on a unique shopping adventure.

Artists showcase their work in Japanese styles, while food stalls serve up bubble tea, matcha, and amazing Japanese noodle soup. If you're fond of kimonos, you'll find no shortage of options here.

Joel Lochmann, a veteran of the seven Dokomi fairs he's attended professionally, shares the sentiments of many. "It's like a family reunion," he says, as he recommends manga to curious customers. Whether browsing through vendors or indulging in delicious food, Dokomi offers a truly immersive Japanese pop culture experience.
