Unleash the Magic: The 4th Circus Theater Festival Returns to Dresden!

Get ready for a whirlwind of colors, sounds, and artistry as the Circus Theater Festival winds its way back to Dresden for its fourth spectacular edition! From June 13 to 28, some of Dresden's most iconic spots — Alaunplatz, Königsufer, Goldener Reiter, Dresdner Heide, and Societaetstheater — will take center stage.

Heiki Ikkola, director of the organizing Societaetstheater, shares, "Our initial plan was to set up our tent on the Elbe riverbank, but the theme of 'bridges' couldn't be more fitting — connecting people, ideas, and worlds, as well as various cultural areas and genres."

The festival will challenge traditional norms, blending circus with classical music, visual arts, and more, all brought to you by a tantalizing partnership with the Dresden Music Festival. Unfortunately, the opening events are already sold out, but don't despair; the show must go on, and there's plenty more where that came from!

Keen to watch? Top-notch acts include Overhead Project, Raum 305, Klub Girko, and — not to be missed — US juggler Wes Peden's "Rollercoaster" show. Pop-punk melds with high-speed precision as these captivating performers take center stage.

Cirque Nouveau, or contemporary circus, is all about defying tradition, merging acrobatics with theater, dance, music, and visual arts. Don't be surprised if you catch a mesmerizing display of human strength, agility, and creativity at this year's festival.

Don't worry if juggling balls or playing flower sticks sounds daunting; there's an interactive circus experience waiting just for you! "Zirkuspause" invites both children and adults to try their hand at various circus arts. So go ahead and unleash your inner acrobat!

For those who prefer open-air events, free entries with a donation hat passing around will be held at Alaunplatz and Goldener Reiter. There's even a small, carefully curated excursion into the heath planned for those feeling adventurous.

With the 2024 festival attracting roughly 17,000 visitors, this year's event promises to be another exhilarating display of artistry and skill. Many events will be based on donations, following the principle, "hat money in, circus out."

Enjoy a day or more, soaking up the festival atmosphere. Each performance on Alaunplatz, from June 23 to 28, will be preceded by an interactive session with Michael Schönfelder, where you can try your hand at juggling and other circus workshops suited for all ages.
