Internet-conquering pair of mountain-climbing animals captures public attention.

In the picturesque landscapes of the North Caucasus, nestled within the Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, a unique friendship has blossomed between two extraordinary animals. This friendship, between Aiyu, a large herding dog of the Central Asian Ovcharka breed, and Barsik, a red-spotted cat, has captivated their surroundings and the internet for nine years.

Aiyu, around 10 years old, is known for his vigilance and strength. He continues to guard the farm and the sheep herd, ensuring the safety of the livestock and the farm's boundaries. Barsik, on the other hand, contributes to the calmness of daily life, with his daily duties including mouse hunting and keeping the area free of unwanted rodents.

The Central Asian Ovcharka breed, of which Aiyu is a part, was bred to protect livestock from predators in the highlands of Central Asia. They are robust, brave, very territorial, and have a gentle nature towards people they trust. Aiyu seems to have found the perfect environment on Isa's farm, with plenty of space, clear responsibilities, and a friend by his side.

Barsik, with his laid-back and clever demeanour, is a perfect complement to Aiyu. Their friendship is deep and genuine, as attested by their owner, Isa. They are known for their deep bond and for patrolling the farm and surrounding mountains together.

Their friendship began nine years ago when they were still puppies. Today, they form a well-rehearsed team that captivates their surroundings. When visitors arrive, Aiyu and Barsik run towards them, and the cat climbs onto the dog's back, likely in anticipation of receiving treats such as sausages or sweets.

Tourists, especially those from abroad, are often impressed by Aiyu and Barsik's friendship. Videos of them walking in the Caucasus region have gone viral on the internet, touching many people. They are popular among tourists who visit for mountain hikes, adding an extra charm to the region's natural beauty.

Aiyu sometimes carries Barsik on his back, like an animal 'taxi'. This sight is a testament to the strong bond between the two animals. Their friendship is a beacon of harmony and unity, proving that even the most unlikely of friendships can flourish with trust, understanding, and mutual respect.
