Cicchetti Piccadilly: A Venetian-Inspired Dining Experience in London's Heart
Cicchetti Piccadilly, a Venetian-style restaurant by the San Carlo Group, has moved to a new location at 172-173 Piccadilly, London W1J 9EJ, United Kingdom. The restaurant's design, created by the London and LA-based interior architecture studio Fettle, is a beautiful blend of Venetian architecture and the magic of Venetian sunsets.
The new Cicchetti Piccadilly spans over 7,520 sq ft and comprises a bar, a main dining area, and a private dining room for 20 guests. The design balances the legacy of the San Carlo brand with a contemporary, playful, and elevated aesthetic that evokes the welcoming nature of a neighborhood Italian eatery fused with the grandeur of Venice.
The main dining space features vibrant yellow walls, mirrored tiles, and verre eglomise mural panels, reminiscent of Venetian frescoes. The long, theatrical bar boasts a high-gloss warm timber front, red-pink mosaic tiles, and pink geometric upholstered bar stools. The bar's ceiling features bevelled mirror coffer panels and a curved back bar, creating reflective surfaces that amplify light and ambience.
The color palette across the restaurant is warm and evocative of a Venetian dusk or sunset—using pink, yellow, and peachy tones seen in the walls, furnishings, and lighting fixtures like Murano glass chandeliers and ruffle-like glass chandeliers. The flooring in the restaurant features a chequerboard pattern, while the bar has striped, scalloped detailing.
The private dining room is softened by an inset bespoke rug that echoes the tones of a hand-painted sky ceiling fresco overhead. The toilets feature marble palladiana. The furnishings are complemented by a variety of terrazzo finishes sourced from Italy and beyond.
The menu at Cicchetti Piccadilly offers a wide selection of Italian classics, including pane and bruschetta, fritti, stuzzichini, salads, pasta, pizza, meats, fish, and vegetables. The team recommends ordering two to three dishes per person and sharing them as they become ready.
The stylish tempura prawns, dressed with spicy mayonnaise and served in a cocktail glass, are a popular starter at Cicchetti Piccadilly. The portions are generously sized. The dessert menu includes the Dolci Cicchetti, a selection of mini bites accompanied by a glass of limoncello.
Andy Goodwin, co-founder and creative director of Fettle, was involved in modernising the look and feel of the new Cicchetti Piccadilly. He explained that the design balances the legacy of the San Carlo brand with a contemporary, playful, and elevated aesthetic that evokes the welcoming nature of a neighborhood Italian eatery fused with the grandeur of Venice.
