In a groundbreaking move, the city of Düsseldorf is set to create a joint float for winter and summer traditions for the first time in history. This unique collaboration, eagerly anticipated by many, is set to be discussed in detail on May 29th, as announced by Oberkassel's shooting chief, Norbert Vogel.

The idea for this unity has been championed by Michael Laumen, the President of the Carnival Committee (CC). Laumen firmly believes that traditions belong together, and this joint celebration is poised to reflect this sentiment.

The collaboration will see joint actions between carnivalists and shooters at the "Zoch", a significant location in Düsseldorf's cultural landscape. This event is not to be confused with the annual 'Eller Celebrates' early breakfast event, which is organized by several entities in Eller, including Eller's St. Sebastianus Shooting Club, the Eller Business Association, the carnival societies 'Höttes Jonges' and 'KG Jroön Wisse Jongs', and the Eller Veedel Zoch.

Interestingly, Eller's St. Sebastianus shooting festival has been moved forward by a week to align with this historic joint celebration. Britta Damm, the Chairwoman of the IGDS, has expressed her support for this collaboration, stating that shooters protect and help, and that together with winter and summer traditions, they can make the most of the COVID-19 situation.

Mayor Stephan Keller, who has called a summit involving the Carnival Committee, the Shooting Association, and two shooting clubs from Oberkassel and Eller, has also expressed his enthusiasm for this joint celebration. He views it as a significant sign of unity in the city.

Peter Hoffmann, Eller's secretary, has shown his support for the successful cooperation of summer and winter traditions. Oberkassel's shooting festivities will remain from May 26th to 29th, but will be scheduled to avoid clashes.

While Düsseldorf's Christmas Market stands out as a major winter tradition, the city’s broader cultural life, including its art scene and cuisine, implicitly showcases a collaboration of seasonal customs. This cultural unity is reflected in the city's culinary traditions, which thrive year-round, and in cultural institutions and community events that often bridge seasonal divides.

This historic joint celebration is set to be another testament to Düsseldorf's cultural unity, bridging the gap between summer and winter traditions, and creating a unique cultural experience for its residents and visitors alike.
