Hamburg's Stadtpark Staircase Reopens After Restoration

Hamburg's southern Stadtpark has seen the reopening of its pedestrian staircase, following a closure in August due to structural issues. The city's own workers carried out the restoration, ensuring safety and improving the path's drainage.

The staircase, connecting the former river bath to the allotment gardens 'Am Eisenweg' and 'Am Hochfeld', leading to the district of Markersdorf, was closed to protect passersby. The city's parks department rebuilt the base and top layers of the path and steps with a stable, sand-slaked gravel surface. The steps were realigned for stability, and the railing was repaired and given a new protective coat. Additionally, the area around the staircase was slightly profiled to better drain rainwater, ensuring safer use for walkers and joggers who use it as a central ascent to reach the city park ridge from the floodplain forest.

The reopened staircase in the southern Stadtpark now offers a safer and more reliable route for walkers and joggers, thanks to the city's restoration efforts.
