Groceries retailer Harris Teeter demonstrates affection for the Lowcountry region
Harris Teeter Refreshes Charleston Stores, Focuses on Fresh Assortment and Local Products
Harris Teeter, a long-standing grocery chain in the Charleston community, is giving its stores a facelift. The multimillion-dollar investment in the Lowcountry is a testament to Harris Teeter's commitment to its neighbours.
The refresh includes physical improvements such as updated flooring, revamped produce departments, and various amenities. The focus is on doubling down on the fresh assortment, particularly in produce and other fresh departments. This commitment to freshness is evident in the partnership with AeroFarms, which will bring microgreens to shoppers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The refresh also involves a series of grand-reopening Taste of Teeter events across the region. These celebrations of the best that Harris Teeter has to offer will highlight regional favorites, local seafood, Palmetto Cheese, Charleston Coffee Roasters, and other Southern cuisines.
Harris Teeter is also re-engaging its associates with a renewed commitment to customer service. This includes refreshing and reiterating training, using technology for training, and creating new elements to communicate with associates.
New signage will be installed throughout the stores to showcase local products and the stories behind the suppliers. Harris Teeter establishes relationships with local producers and growers through various means, including reaching out to them, attending local events, and responding to customers on social media.
Harris Teeter associates from the Lowcountry will be featured in commercials, discussing the branding and In Food with Love campaigning. The first event is scheduled for June 18 at Six Mile Marketplace Harris Teeter, in Mt. Pleasant.
Harris Teeter, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co., employs 36,000 associates and is No. 4 on Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America. Last year, the company gave back over $6 million to the community through donations, fundraising, roundup campaigns, and vendor support.
As Harris Teeter celebrates its 65th birthday, it's also hosting birthday parties at its stores. However, a comprehensive timeline for Harris Teeter's market refresh across different locations has not been publicly announced yet.
