"Game featuring male characters laying eggs"
News Article: Celebrating Women in Traditional Crafts and Spring Festivities at the Jaegerhof
The Museum of Saxon Folk Art, located at Koepckestraße 1, 01097 Dresden, is a hub of cultural heritage and artistic expression. Currently, two exhibitions are on display: "Women Make Männchen" and "Easter at the Jaegerhof".
The "Women Make Männchen" exhibition, showcasing historical, modern, and contemporary works, aims to highlight the significant role of women in figurative woodworking, a traditionally male domain. The exhibition features pieces from the museum's own collection and loans from Grünhainichen, Seiffen, and Olbernhau. Visitors can witness the work of artists such as Annette Kelm, Julia Schmidt, Lilith Czarnecki, and others, and purchase their creations. A reconstructed home workshop provides insight into the artists' working atmosphere.
The "Women Make Männchen" exhibition is not just about showcasing the art but also about celebrating the women who have been involved in the creation of angels, miners, and other figures since the beginning, significantly contributing to the craft in the Erzgebirge. The Männchen, small wooden carved figures from the Erzgebirge, are part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The traditional "Easter at the Jaegerhof" exhibition this year focuses on male folk artists decorating eggs with traditional techniques. Visitors can explore the vibrant and intricate designs on display.
The framework program for both exhibitions includes lectures, tours, music, and workshops. Every Thursday until April 24, creative afternoons for children and adults will take place. On April 12, the Dresden-Striesen Men's Choir will give a spring concert, and on April 26, Sebastian Walser from TU Dresden will speak about Easter in Christianity.
The Jaegerhof is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm, closed on Mondays but open on Easter Monday. So, whether you're a local or a tourist, make sure to visit the Jaegerhof to immerse yourself in the rich culture and traditions of Saxony.
