Oechsle Festival Kicks Off in Pforzheim

The 34th Oechsle Festival, a celebration of wines and culinary specialties from Baden-Württheimer, officially began on a bustling Market Square in Pforzheim, Germany.

Despite a construction site in the Eastern part of the city, the Market Square was chosen as the ideal location for this year's event, which attracted numerous visitors from Pforzheim and the surrounding area.

The event was opened by Councilor Jörg Augenstein, who took over the welcome in the name of the head of the city, Mayor Peter Boch, who sent his apologies and was represented at the occasion. Frank Daudert, the innkeeper speaker, was also present and interviewed during the event.

Thomas Brockmann moderated the program, which included a mix of Schlager, folk music, and rock performances. The seven-member formation "Die Steinsberger" took the stage on the opening evening, encouraging the audience to dance, with the visitors filling the dance floor without being asked.

The festival featured a varied stage program, with themed evenings and bands performing over multiple days. A special highlight was the Dirndl evening on Saturday, August 31, 2019.

For 17 days, the Market Square was named after Ferdinand Oechsle, in honour of the festival. The event offered free entry and was open daily from 11 am until September 8, 2019.

Notable guests included Julia Böcklen, Württemberg Wine Queen, Rebecca Rieger, Kraichgau Wine Princess, and Nadine Schmid, Wine Queen of Keltern.
