Exploring the idea of attending a secondhand market?
Saturday, 20th September, and Sunday, 21st September, are set to be bustling days in Central Germany as a series of flea markets, jumble sales, and basars take place across various towns.
In Braunschweig, two events are scheduled. On Saturday, the Schützenplatz, Hamburger Straße, will transform into a lively Flea Market from 6 am to 2 pm. On the following day, Sunday, a Family Flea Market will be held in Goslar Baßgeige.
The term "Flohmarkt" or "flea market" originated in Paris in the 18th or 19th century, referring to markets for second-hand clothing often hosting fleas. The name "flea market" was given in the early 19th century due to its association with poor people and the potential transmission of fleas. However, today's flea markets are much more hygienic compared to their historical counterparts.
Wolfshagen is also joining the festivities with a flea market on Saturday, starting at 10 am. The exact location within Wolfshagen is yet to be specified.
For those seeking a more traditional experience, Village Flea Markets are taking place in Allerbüttel, Barnstorf, Bettmar, Bierbergen, Cremlingen, Denstorf, Glentorf, Oberg, Rethmar, Stedum-Bekum, and Tappenbeck on Sunday, 21st September. Additionally, a Traditional Autumn/Winter Basar is occurring in Braunschweig on an unspecified date.
Lastly, a Jumble Sale is taking place in Braunschweig on Sunday, 21st September. For those in Wolfsburg, a Flea Market can be found in Wolfsburg-Heinenkamp on the same day.
Whether you're in search of unique treasures, a day out with the family, or just a taste of local culture, these events promise an enjoyable experience for all.
