Expanded cycle paths stretching over 400 meters established in Wiesbaden
In the heart of Wiesbaden, a significant expansion of the city's bicycle network has been completed. This initiative, undertaken by the city administration, aims to create a more connected and safer bicycle route between residential areas, schools, and key locations such as the Helios HSK Hospital.
The project, which was a result of a resolution passed by the local council in 2021, has seen the creation of wider bicycle lanes on Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, a crucial artery in the city. The new bicycle lane on Willi-Werner-Straße, located in front of the Elisabeth-Selbert-School, is a key component of this expansion.
The new bicycle lane on Willi-Werner-Straße is mostly two meters wide, offering ample space for cyclists. It connects to other improvements in the area, such as the widened bicycle path on Erich-Ollenhauer-Straße, creating a smoother and more continuous bicycle route.
Further markings on Erich-Ollenhauer-Straße will improve turning possibilities into Willi-Werner-Straße, ensuring a safer and more efficient journey for cyclists. New markings on Willi-Werner-Straße allow for direct left turns and safe crossing of the roadway, further enhancing the bicycle experience.
Additional bicycle parking spaces have been set up at the intersection of Willi-Werner-Straße and Stegerwaldstraße, providing convenient storage for cyclists. Flexible bollards have also been set up at the school entrance to reserve space for cyclists, ensuring a dedicated area for those choosing to cycle.
The expansion aims to provide more safety for students on their way to school, particularly the Elisabeth-Selbert-School, and to create better conditions for climate-friendly mobility in the neighborhood. The new connection between Ludwig-Erhard-Straße and the Helios HSK Hospital shortens the route between the city center and the HSK by approximately 150 meters, making it a more attractive option for those choosing to cycle.
The elimination of a longer incline and two crossings of Ludwig-Erhard-Straße improves safety for cyclists. Lowered curbs and a newly marked ford ensure a connection to the bicycle path on Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, providing a smoother and more accessible route.
The city of Wiesbaden has also established a 400-meter long protected bicycle lane in Wiesbaden-Dotzheim, further demonstrating its commitment to promoting cycling as a sustainable and accessible mode of transportation.
This expansion closes a gap in Wiesbaden's bicycle network, making it easier for residents and students to navigate the city by bicycle, and contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly city.
