Enjoy a refreshing dip! Canine enjoying swim at Reutlinger outdoor pool
In the heart of Reutlingen, Germany, a unique and beloved tradition took place during the late summer. The annual dog swimming event at the city's wave pool was a huge success this year, with more dogs and visitors flocking to the venue than ever before.
Organised by the city of Reutlingen in collaboration with the pool staff, the event has been a highlight for canine enthusiasts since its inception in 2021. Necdet Mantar, head of the municipal baths, praised the event, stating that it has been a big hit since its start.
Over 100 dogs participated in the event this year, with at least that many expected last year. Among them was Caramella, an eleven-year-old dog, and Bulldog Hugo from Frickenhausen. While Caramella enjoyed the cool water of the wave pool, constantly moving and fetching her toys, Hugo seemed less enthusiastic about swimming.
Kathrin Schwinge, Hugo's owner, humorously described him as a 'cat trapped in a dog's body.' On the other hand, Dachshund Luise was a lively participant, full of energy and excitement. Rita Schilling from Trochtelfingen brought her two giant Newfoundlands, Johnny and Freddy, who also enjoyed the day.
All visitors agreed that the event was a success this year. Anneke van Ijsselmuiden from Reutlingen attended the event with her five-year-old mixed breed. Admission for the dog swimming event costs three euros, and only sociable dogs with vaccination records and proof of liability insurance are allowed in the pool.
The water quality no longer needs to meet the strict standards for humans during the dog swimming event, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participating dogs. The temperature during the event was a warm 29°C, perfect for a day of fun in the water.
As the swimming season comes to an end, the dog swimming event draws more visitors each year. With the event taking place after the regular swimming season has closed, there are no hygiene concerns. The event is set to continue as a cherished tradition in Reutlingen, bringing joy to both dogs and their owners alike.
