English Island-Inspired Mermaid Zest Gin Debuts

The Isle of Wight's solitary distillery has unveiled a novel variation to its Mermaid Gin line, introducing the Mermaid Zest Gin—a limited-edition concoction that features a selection of citrus flavors. This new gin joins the original Mermaid Gin in the brand's sustainable range, which is now expanded to four offerings.

The zestful gin showcases the zingy undertones of grapefruit and lemon zest, complementing the existing flavors of foraged rock samphire, rosemary, and fruits gathered from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's Osborne House's Victorian walled garden. The Mermaid Zest Gin debuted at the Junipalooza Gin Festival on June 11th and 12th at Tobacco Dock, London, presented in a striking, emerald green, sea-inspired bottle crafted from recyclable glass and devoid of plastic. The bottle's stopper and tamper-evident seal are fashioned from eco-friendly materials, such as corn and potato starch, which decompose over six to twelve weeks in food waste recycling.

Mermaid Gin champions sustainable practices, partnering with Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), a national marine conservation and advocacy charity. In alignment with its seaside ethos, the brand supports ocean conservation, beach preservation, and wildlife protection, aiming to keep the oceans, coastlines, and marine ecology clean, safe, and thriving.

Xavier Baker, the co-founder of Mermaid Gin, expressed his excitement over the new gin's release, stating, "We are thrilled to launch our limited-edition Mermaid Zest Gin to gin enthusiasts, offering a new and exciting flavor profile that complements our original Mermaid Gin. Mermaid Zest Gin is an intriguing blend of citrus and herbaceous ingredients, maintaining the signature 'hint of sea air' from our foraged rock samphire. This is an exceptional addition to our gin assortment, exhibiting impressive versatility and delighting in a Mediterranean tonic or complex cocktails."

The Mermaid Zest Gin is smooth, refreshing, and complex, with a zesty character and a subtle sweetness accentuated by herbal notes. Its finish is lengthy and layered, with a well-rounded mouthfeel, making it ideal for a broad range of uses. For a perfect G&T, combine an ice-filled glass with Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic and garnish with a slice of fresh lemon and a sprig of rosemary.

The Mermaid Zest Gin is now accessible for purchase online from the Isle of Wight Distillery.

The Mermaid Zest Gin, with its zingy flavors of grapefruit and lemon zest, extends the Isle of Wight Distillery's sustainable line of gins, blurring the boundaries between food-and-drink and home-and-garden by incorporating foraged ingredients from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's Osborne House's Victorian walled garden. This new lifestyle offering from Mermaid Gin was showcased at the Junipalooza Gin Festival in a bottle designed with the environment in mind, utilizing recyclable glass and eco-friendly materials for its stopper and seal.
