In the heart of Nordhorn, the city has been implementing a play and neighborhood park concept since 2016, with the goal of creating attractive places that are actively used. This innovative approach has seen several neighbourhoods transformed, including Süd- und Bierstraße, Neuberlin, and Blumensiedlung.

Recently, the playgrounds at Süd- und Bierstraße were upgraded with two additional water play installations. These improvements, which also include new equipment and enhancements for overall stay quality, have made the area a popular destination for families during the summer and vacation season. The water games promote motor and creative development, as well as shared experiences, making them a hit among children.

The water game in the Main Street, for instance, has proven to be a popular cooling option for children on hot days. Another popular spot is the Rotdornweg playground, where sandstone blocks have been installed for jumping, balancing, and seating. The unique play equipment in Nordhorn has been rebuilt in a new shine, using the existing stainless steel slide, support rail, and running carriage at the Rüschenweg playground.

The success of these upgrades has not gone unnoticed. Heinz Silies from the city planning and environment department of Nordhorn explains that ground trampolines are popular in the participation rounds for the play and neighborhood park concept. In fact, two more playgrounds with water games are already in the planning stages.

Water play areas are not just about fun and games, but also contribute to climate adaptation by combining play and cooling off. In line with this, two new water games have been completed and put into operation at the "Im Birkenbusch" and "Akazienstraße" playgrounds.

For those wanting to explore these new attractions, an overview map of all play and water play locations can be found at www.our website/spielplatz. Nordhorn now boasts a total of six publicly accessible playgrounds with water games, offering quality and sustainability for the enjoyment of families.

As the play and neighborhood park concept continues to evolve, Nordhorn is set to become an even more attractive destination for families and children alike.
