Enduring durability reaps benefits: Gatehouse 1 in Bremen-Walle is now accessible
After a delay of over two years, the city of Bremen has approved the construction of Torhaus 1, an example of inclusive urban development. The opening of Torhaus 1 and its integrated pub, Tante Martin, is scheduled for June 14th.
Tante Martin, named after a popular local figure, will offer more than just gastronomic delights. It will serve as a new social meeting place in Walle, accessible to the public as an event venue. Visitors can expect a round on the house on the opening day.
The pub will be a place of encounter for long-time residents and newcomers, reflecting the vision of Sebastian Jung, the Martinclub's head of construction projects, who aims to shape the neighborhood with the community.
The integrated pub in Torhaus 1 will not be the first venture for its manager, Alex Becker, who previously ran the BSV clubhouse "Sportklause" at this location.
The approval process for Torhaus 1 involved questions of architecture, building law, and heritage preservation. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in March 2023, and the topping-out ceremony was celebrated in July 2023. During the ceremony, a toast was made to the well-being of the house and the builder.
People with and without disabilities will work together to serve guests in Tante Martin. This inclusive approach is a testament to the ethos of the Martinclub Bremen e.V., an organisation committed to promoting social integration and community development.
The pub plans to regularly host tip-off games, adding to its appeal as a vibrant community hub. With its opening on June 14th, Torhaus 1 and Tante Martin are set to become significant additions to the Walle neighbourhood.
