Daily Routines of an Independent Scribe
Ready to break free from the shackles of the generic morning routine bashed across the internet? Your morning habits aren't meant to mirror what the elite slaves on social media claim they do. Here's the real scoop from a freelance word wrangler - aka the sole operator of a one-man business.
Morning Habits: The Great Deception
Everywhere you look, people preach their morning routines as the key to success. But dig deeper, and you'll find most of it's just projection. Here's the ridiculous rubbish peddled as the route to high performance:
- 4:30AM - Rise and Shine: Only the chosen few insist that waking up before the sun brings prosperity.
- 5:00AM - Fuel Up: The all-powerful protein/mushroom/meth coffee to arm you for peak performance.
- 5:15AM - Explosive Evacuation: That coffee sure blasts its way through you.
- 5:30AM - Pump Up: Get physically pumped! Flex, grind, hustle, get the blood flowing!
- 6:30AM - Wash Up: Cold showers are the only comfortless comfort.
- 7:00AM - Grind Away: Pump out 100 tasks before the world wakes up, feeling the heaviness of the world on your shoulders.
The fact is, some of these have merit (especially the massive morning poo), but most of it is junk. If your morning routine consists of things you despise, you'll loathe even getting out of bed.
My Morning Habits: The Hidden Truth
So, what does a ghostwriter do in the wee hours of the day? Let's take a sneak peek at most mornings spent living among the spectral.
- 6:30AM - Snooze
- 6:45AM - Stretch and Groan: Roll out of bed, scared to face the day. Go pee, weigh yourself no matter how much it demoralizes you.
- 6:47AM - Gulp Coffee: Pour your soulmate in a cup and revel in the bitterness. Spend too long scrolling through emails and social media.
- 7:00AM - Cater to the Feline Demand: Feed the cat because he won't stop yowling at you. Don't forget the dogs need their kibble too.
- 7:05AM - Keep Scrolling: Curse your lack of willpower for allowing scrolling to continue.
- 7:15AM - Get Religious: Read some of the bible, pray about it, and meditate on its wisdom.
- 7:30AM - Dress Up and Clean Up: Finally get moving enough to get dressed, make the bed, and have another cup of that precious coffee.
- 7:55AM - Off To School: Drop the kid off, head home, and dive headfirst into work.
The best part about this messy routine is the days it's off feel discombobulated, taking a while to get back into the writing zone.
My Morning Habit Goals
Of course, this isn't ideal, especially in the warmer, sunnier months approaching. So, here's what I'd like to work toward.
6AM - Rise and Shine: Get up right away, without any snoozing nonsense.
Take a leisurely walk, enjoy the crack of dawn, listen to a podcast, and maybe stroll the neighborhood with my furry pals. Get home, sip my coffee, read the bible, pray, meditate, and only then acknowledge the emails and social media.
Start the day by 7AM, not to grind away at a hundred projects like a heartless machine, but to finish my workday around noon. Afternoons off, still completing everything necessary - now that's a sweet sensation.
Crafting Your Morning Routine
Morning routines aren't a one-size-fits-all deal. Everybody should have something that sets the tone for the day and makes them feel like a victor. Here's a plan to help you craft your ideal morning routine.
Wake Up: Find your own sweet spot. Wake at a time that feels comfortable and not too early to dread the morning.
Exercise: No need to kill yourself. A simple walk is usually enough to kick-start your motivation.
Fuel Up: Get some nourishment in you. Experiment with adding fat to your morning routine for better brain function.
Read: Consume some words, a couple pages at least, to stimulate your imagination.
Social Media: Save your precious 15 minutes for lunchtime to catch up on social media escapades.
By tailoring your morning routine, you create a solid foundation to accomplish great things throughout the day. Now, are you ready to pen your magnum opus? As a ghostwriter, I'd be more than happy to guide you in transforming your thoughts into a tangible masterpiece. Find a slice of time available on my calendar below, and let's make the magic happen!
