Cyclists in Düsseldorf can pedal the streets once more

Düsseldorf is inviting residents, workers, students, and members of clubs to participate in the nationwide Stadtradeln (City Cycling) event, which is taking place despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The event, which encourages the use of bicycles or e-bikes as a means of transportation, is open for registration at www.stadtradeln.de/duesseldorf.

Participants can enter the kilometers they have covered from May 20 to June 9 online. All trips made by bicycle or e-bike count towards Düsseldorf's kilometer account, which includes trips for work, school, leisure, shopping, and more.

Last year, 1,482 municipalities participated in the event (2019: 1,127), demonstrating the growing popularity of the initiative. In 2020, Düsseldorf came in third in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) with 281 teams and over 6,300 participating cyclists, making it the best-performing large city in the state, ahead of Cologne (rank 6), Münster (rank 8), and Bielefeld (rank 12).

Cycling is not only a fun and engaging activity but also provides healthy exercise in the fresh air. It is an energy-, resource-, and space-saving, clean mode of transport that helps reduce carbon emissions. Environmental Commissioner Helga Stulgies is looking forward to the event.

Interested parties can register for the cycling event for free online. If you have any questions or need assistance, the Stadtradeln coordination can be reached by email at [email protected] and by phone at 0211-8925003 and 8925094.

It is worth noting that, unfortunately, an analysis of the evolution of Düsseldorf's involvement or competitive performance in Stadtradeln over the years cannot be provided based on the available information. For comprehensive data, official Stadtradeln archives or Düsseldorf’s local government or Stadtradeln regional pages should be consulted directly.

The field of competing cities, districts, and municipalities is growing steadily, and participants can either form their own team or join an existing one on the website. So, dust off your bicycle or e-bike and join the movement towards a greener, healthier, and more active Düsseldorf!
