Get ready for a literary extravaganza from July 1st to August 31st, 2024, as the borderland between Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium comes alive with a spectacular celebration of words! Summer just got a whole lot smarter.
This jubilee edition boasts 60 events in 21 cities, featuring a whopping 30 esteemed German, Dutch, and Flemish literary talents. Expect prolific poets, mesmerizing novelists, captivating publishers, and fresh-faced wordsmiths to grace stages, libraries, and castles, all set to spark your literary curiosity.
This year, we're venturing into new literary territory! For the first time ever, we'll gather in Neuss to exchange our reading experiences of the 2024 Literary Summer titles. Can't wait to share our thoughts and feelings about these masterpieces!
Our journey began back in August 2000, when we started with a tri-city reading program in Krefeld, Mönchengladbach, and Neuss, aimed at providing a literary feast for stay-at-home folks during the summer. Over time, we gained a passionate audience and a dedicated team of organizers, culminating in the expansion to cities like Venlo and more across the border region. Initially focusing on "Literary Summers on the Lower Rhine," the festival eventually spread its wings, blooming into the bilingual "Literary Summer/Literaire Zomer" we know today.
Don't worry, old friend! Our founding cities aren't resting on their laurels. Expect events aplenty in Aachen, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Venlo, and Neuss, complete with literary walks that dish on real-life locations found in your favorite novels. Say cheese as we honor the invisible hands behind the beautiful words on paper (and digital screens).
Under the visionary leadership of "EuregioKultur e.V.," in collaboration with numerous organizations, we march forward, sustained by the financial backing of sponsors and supporters and the media spotlight from WDR.
