The city of Nuremberg has chosen Nora Falk as its new Christkind, a traditional figure who plays a significant role in the renowned Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. Falk, a 15-year-old local, will embody the spirit of Christmas while adding her own personal touch to the role.
Falk will officially open the Christkindlesmarkt on November 28, marking the beginning of the festive season. As the central figure of the market, she will invite visitors to join in the holiday celebrations, embodying the spirit of kindness and generosity that the Christkind is known for.
Throughout the Advent season, Falk will visit schools, kindergartens, and retirement homes, fostering a sense of community and joy during the holiday season. She will also make an appearance at the Children’s Christmas Market, where children can send their wish lists to the Christkind.
The selection process for the Christkind involves several steps, with candidates typically being young women from Nuremberg who fit the traditional appearance of the Christkind. Falk was chosen from six finalists after interviews and auditions assessed her personality, charm, and ability to embody the role of the Christkind.
Falk's costume will include a golden crown, wig with curls, wings, and a dress adorned with stars. The tailors from the Nuremberg State Theater will create the magnificent garment for Falk.
The Christkind tradition dates back to 1969, when girls from Nuremberg began holding the position. The city justifies the exclusion of boys in the costume with historical references to the Christkind as a female figure.
Falk has a busy schedule during the Advent season, with over 100 events on the schedule. She plans to celebrate after the announcement and call everyone who supported her. In her free time, Falk engages in activities such as tennis, theater, kickboxing, and singing.
