Cheetah Cubs at Wilhelma Stuttgart Initiate Their First Strolls
You can now visit the zoological and botanical garden Wilhelma in Stuttgart to witness some adorable, newly-born cubs in the cheetah enclosure. The proud mother, a seven-year-old cheetah, named Niara, welcomed her cubs behind the scenes in the beginning of April. On June's opening, she brought her little ones out for public viewing!
The outdoor area of the cheetah exhibit is now filled with the curiosity and energy of six playful cubs. Four boys and two girls roam around, making every visitor's day a bit brighter!
Cheetah Momma's Six Jewels
Initially, Niara preferred a secluded birthing box away from prying eyes for the birth and the ensuing weeks. Now that the cubs are strong and exploring their surroundings, they can be seen in the outdoor cheetah enclosure.
A Familiar Tale of Cubs and Successful Breeding
In the past, Niara has given life to five cubs in the year 2022. These cubs have since grown and found new homes in other zoos. The secret to successful breeding lies in separating the males and females. A model zoo curator, Ulrike Rademacher, shared this insight: "If kept together for too long, a sibling-like bond develops, which unfortunately does not lead to offspring." The last time Niara and fellow cheetah Zawadi were together, magic happened, and Niara became pregnant.
