Centennial Celebration at the Wolfsburg Senior Living Facility

Holiday Cheers at WIR: VWI and German Red Cross Celebrate 30 Years of Senior Living

Smiling faces, joyful residents, applauding staff, and energetic trainees of the 'Living in Retirement' (WIR) senior living facility in Fallersleben were in for a treat - a 30th birthday bash! The celebration was made all the more special with a cake from local bakery Cadera, a lively program, and plenty of fun thrown in.

A Heartfelt Thank You from VWI Managing Director Meno Requardt

Joining in the festivities, along with Wolfsburger DRK President Jörg Lamberg, Mayor André-Georg Schlichting, WIR Director Miriam Schiefler, and many others, VWI Managing Director Meno Requardt congratulated the facility on its monumental milestone. In a statement, he expressed gratitude to the WIR staff for providing a beautiful home and a dignified retirement for the residents. He also appreciated the loyalty of the VWI tenants - "In WIR, interactions feel natural. Here, seniors live and thrive in a lively environment, have the freedom to shape their lives, and are always supported by a caring community, including their neighbors and the German Red Cross," shared Requardt.

To honor Horst-Hans Linß, a tenant since 1995 and one of the original residents at 93 years old, Meno Requardt presented him with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and an invitation for a leisurely breakfast for two at the Hotel Global Inn. Said Linß, "Each morning starts with exercises, jumping on a trampoline, doing push-ups, and a few musical gymnastics routines in my apartment."

Music and Games Aplenty

The musical stylings of the Maritime Choir Wolfsburg had the residents singing and moving along. The enthusiastic VWI trainees organized a Senior Sports Day, featuring events such as the goal wall, air balloon volleyball, and even the skill-based game of Cornhole - all aimed at showcasing the skill and playfulness of the older generation.
