Botanical Garden's Book Market Locks for the Tenth Time: Closure Ensued
A Free Book Fair Celebrates World Book Day at the Botanical Garden
In House 6, countless atlanta lay on tables stretching meters long, ready for eager readers at the tenth book fair held at the Botanical Garden. This annual event, coinciding with World Book Day on April 23, attracted several hundred visitors.
World Book Day is a significant celebration in Germany, marking the death anniversaries of English playwright and poet William Shakespeare and Spain's national poet Miguel de Cervantes. It is a reading festival celebrated by bookstores, publishers, libraries, schools, and book lovers across the country.
The book fair, organised by Claudia Elsner-Overberg and Matthias Nitsche, is a sustainable event, with admission free and all books given away for free. Visitors were equipped with bags and/or backpacks, eagerly searching for interesting or thrilling reading material among the stacks.
A rare find at the book fair was "Help for the Christmas Men" by Ute Krause. Many visitors, like Astrid Wilsing, unpacked five large, fully packed atlanta filled with various works. Some refreshed themselves with coffee or ice cream at the garden kiosk, while others took leisurely strolls in the park, enjoying the nice weather.
The book fair's book shelf is cleared, sorted by theme, and restocked after each event. The operator is the Stiftung Gartenkultur, a foundation member of which initiated the concept of book exchange in the Botanical Garden. The next big event at the Botanical Garden is the Botanical Garden and Flower Day, scheduled for May 4/5.
The proceeds from the donation boxes at the book fair are used exclusively for the maintenance of the garden. Between the book stacks, donation boxes awaited kind attention from visitors.
The tulip beds were on display during the book fair, adding a splash of colour to the already picturesque setting. As the day drew to a close, the book fair proved to be a successful celebration of literature and the love for books.
