Book Fair in Lisbon Commences
Book lovers, mark your calendars! The Lisbon Book Fair returns to the heart of the city, specifically Parque Eduardo VII, from December 7 to December 17, 2023!
This annual celebration of literature and culture promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a whopping 350 pavilions, 963 publishing brands, and a groundbreaking green initiative that'll see thousands of trees planted, supported by an investment of 135 thousand euros.
This year, the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers (APEL) aims to blow last year's cultural offerings out of the water, with over 3,000 events planned, over a thousand of which will welcome authors from various backgrounds.
A new square will grace the fairgrounds, and there'll be more portable ramps and wheelchairs, made available by Santa Casa da Misericórdia, for easier accessibility for those with reduced mobility.
Not leaving out our little bookworms, the children's program has been beefed up, featuring workshops, staged readings, and the much-anticipated return of "Camping with Stories" at Estufa Fria.
In terms of services, you'll find the ever-popular coat rack, which offers postal delivery of books and temporary storage of your belongings, an expanded food area, and campaigns for donating and recycling books.
The fair will open its doors from Monday to Thursday, 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with extended hours until 11:00 PM on Fridays and special days (June 9, 12, and 18). On Saturdays, it kicks off at 10:00 AM and wraps at 11:00 PM, while on Sundays and special days (June 10, 13, and 19), the pavilions will be open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
The "H Hour" will make a comeback, offering bookworms discounts of at least 50% on selected titles from Monday to Thursday, during the last hour of the fair.
The grand opening ceremony will take place at the South Auditorium at 12:00 PM, graced by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Minister of Culture, Dalila Rodrigues, and the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas.
