Ingolstadt, Germany, kicked off its 2025 City Cycling event on Saturday morning, inviting citizens to embark on a unique, eco-friendly journey that combines sport, learning, and adventure. The event, which runs until July 25, aims to promote sustainable travel and cycling while offering a family-friendly, interactive experience that highlights local culture, history, and innovations.

Mayor Petra Kleine and Cycling Officer Theresa Schneider officially opened the event in the inner courtyard of the New Town Hall. Participants were welcomed with the event's motto, "Safety in Road Traffic," and encouraged to join the various bike tours across Ingolstadt and surrounding districts like Pfaffenhofen a. d. Ilm, Eichstätt, and Neuburg-Schrobenhausen.

One of the highlighted routes is the "SCIENCE-SEEING" tour, a 32.5-kilometre journey through Ingolstadt and Pfaffenhofen a. d. Ilm, featuring some gravel sections and taking approximately 4.5 hours. Participants navigate the route using the free Locandy app, which delivers GPS-based tasks and puzzles, enhancing engagement beyond simple cycling. The narrative involves helping the fictional Frankenstein family to prevent a villain from taking over the region, blending storytelling with science themes like robotics and artificial intelligence.

Participants automatically enter a lottery if they cycle 21 kilometres, and a velomobile from hovelo was presented, attracting attention as an innovative, weather-resistant alternative to the classic bicycle. The event also focused on traffic safety, with a virtual reality headset used to simulate everyday traffic scenarios and promote safe cycling.

The guided bike tour, which started at 10:30 a.m., showcased the green surroundings of the city and attracted around 25 participants. The traffic safety watch demonstrated the danger of blind spots for cyclists in a real bus line, emphasizing the importance of safety in road traffic.

Ingolstadt.live was present with an information stand, providing continuous media coverage of the event, and initiatives like Angelika's bike kids and the bicycle workshop from the Antonviertel were also present.
