Beach opening a week ahead of schedule.
City Beach in Yakutsk's 202nd Microdistrict to Open on June 9
Yakutsk, the capital of the Sakha Republic, is set to inaugurate its city beach in the 202nd microdistrict on June 9, according to Victor Obutov, Director of MUP "Technical Service" of the "City of Yakutsk" municipal district.
At present, swimming at the beach is forbidden as the city awaits an expert assessment from the Center for Epidemiology. The beach area will undergo an inspection to identify safe swimming spots, and the adjacent recreation zone will be prepared for public use.
Renovations to the beach have been underway this year, following the initial stages of reconstruction that commenced in October 2024. Once the official opening takes place, the beach will offer new pedestrian and bike paths, canopies, public toilets, a mother and child room, kiosks selling refreshments, and rentals for beach equipment and water sports like paddleboards.
As the water level recedes, walkways and shower cabins will be installed for easy access on the sand. A cleanup event is scheduled for June 6, planned in collaboration with the Yakutsk City Administration, the Guibinsky District Administration, and the Council of Elders of the 203rd microdistrict.
Victor Obutov extended an invitation to all residents, visitors, and active citizens to participate in the cleanup event at the city beach scheduled for June 6 at 5 PM. This year's opening of the swimming season in the capital is expected a week earlier than last year.
Though the list of amenities and offical opening date have not been confirmed yet, Yakutsk is known for its efforts to develop recreational areas despite its harsh climate. To stay informed, consult the Yakutsk City Administration's official website, local newspapers, or media outlets such as Yakutia Media or YakutskLife. Alternatively, reach out to the city’s Tourism or Public Works Department for official statements.
Upon the official opening of the revamped City Beach in Yakutsk's 202nd Microdistrict on June 9, residents and visitors can look forward to experiencing an outdoor-living lifestyle with home-and-garden elements, as the beach will offer various amenities such as pedestrian paths, bike paths, canopies, public facilities, and rentals for beach equipment and water sports. Moreover, community members are invited to participate in a cleanup event on June 6, 5 PM, as part of the preparations for the anticipated lifestyle transformation.
