Peenebad Bathing Pool Opens for the Summer with Innovative Heating System

The Peenebad bathing pool in Malchin, Germany, has welcomed over 17,000 guests this summer, following its opening in early July. The pool, known as the city's largest bathing spot, has been heated for the first time this year, thanks to an innovative solar-powered heating system.

The new water heating system focuses on sustainability, using adsorber plates installed on the roofs to harness the power of the sun. According to Maik Mahler, the Peenebad director, with good sunshine, the bathing water gains one degree in two hours. However, some bathers have expressed concerns that the water has been too warm at times.

The remodeling of the changing room building and the tendering for the sanitary renovation were delayed until after the end of the bathing season to avoid disruptions during the operational period. The new changing room at Peenebad was opened this year, although the furniture is still awaited. Councilwoman Manuela Rißer has promised that furniture for the new changing room will be acquired as soon as the budget for this year is approved.

Initial estimates suggest that the number of guests this year is roughly the same as last year, despite the pool being opened six weeks later than usual due to the installation of a breaking news slide last year. The bathing season at Peenebad in Malchin ends on September 30.

The Peenebad bathing pool has received a positive response from the majority of visitors. It has been often compared to the Stavenhagener Waldbad, which heats its basins with waste heat from the wastewater treatment plant. However, Maik Mahler emphasized that the heating system at Peenebad is different from the one at Stavenhagener Waldbad.

The water only cools down slightly at night, with the exception of filter cleaning. The water heating system has been tested thoroughly this summer, with approximately 17,000 guests testing the new system. Some guests have reported issues with the water heating system, but the pool has generally received positive feedback.

Despite some minor issues, the Peenebad bathing pool has proven to be a popular destination this summer. With the new solar-powered heating system, the pool's average temperature could be maintained at 20 degrees, providing a comfortable bathing experience for all. The bathing pool will close on September 30, marking the end of another successful summer season.
