Aschaffenburg's 'Art Dementia Community 2025' Showcases Creativity of Those Living with Dementia
Aschaffenburg is set to host a unique exhibition, 'Art Dementia Community 2025', from September 18 to October 16 at the Martinushaus. This event showcases artwork created by individuals with dementia and aims to raise awareness about the condition and the experiences of caregivers.
The project, initiated by Tabea Blumenschein and originally developed in Zurich, was brought to Aschaffenburg by Sarah Brendecke. Inspired by her father's struggle with dementia, Brendecke created the project as part of a study in Alzenau and now offers it in Aschaffenburg. From July to August, free art workshops were held at the Education Office of the City of Aschaffenburg, allowing participants to explore their creativity.
The exhibition, open Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 12 PM and Monday to Thursday from 1 PM to 4 PM, features these artworks alongside information about dementia and the experiences of caregivers. Guided tours are available on September 25 and October 2 and 7. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Faculty of Design at the University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt, the Martinus Forum, and the Education Office of the City of Aschaffenburg.
The opening reception for 'Art Dementia Community 2025' is on Wednesday, September 17 at 5 PM, followed by a sneak peek into a documentary film about the entire project at 6 PM. The film, documented by a professional team, will be released in the coming months. This exhibition offers a unique perspective on dementia and is a testament to the creativity and resilience of those living with the condition.
