Art Gallery in Baden-Baden gets a fresh head from Karlsruhe
The Baden-Baden Art Museum, located in the picturesque town of Baden-Baden, is undergoing a significant change. The previous Director's contract has expired, and a new team is set to take over from May 1.
The Baden State Museum, the parent organisation of the Art Museum, has appointed two new leaders to steer the Art Museum during this transition period. Eckart Köhne, a renowned scholar, will serve as the new Scientific Director, while Patrizia Catalano, an architect and professional journalist, and Miriam Giordano, a communication expert, will share the role of Directors.
Catalano and Giordano, founders of their respective organisations, bring a fresh perspective to the Art Museum. Their focus on curatorial work that includes contemporary and feminist perspectives is evident from their recent collaborations, such as the exhibition featuring the Danish artist Pernille Pontoppidan Pedersen, exploring feminist sculpture inspired by scholar Donna J. Haraway.
The new leadership team has plans for the exhibition program until 2026, although specific details are yet to be fully disclosed. What is clear, however, is their commitment to innovative and critical approaches to art display.
In addition to the new leadership, the Baden State Museum also has a new Commercial Director, Susanne Schulenburg. The Museum will temporarily move to the Baden-Baden Art Museum during its renovation, which is expected to last approximately five years.
The Baden-Baden Art Museum will continue to be an important place for art and cultural education. It will also maintain a constructive cooperation with other cultural institutions and the city society. The Museum will continue to present contemporary art, as promised by Art State Secretary Arne Braun.
The Baden State Museum is also associated with Karlsruhe, and the Art Museum will remain a significant attraction for art enthusiasts. However, access to this article requires a Staatsanzeiger subscription.
The current Director, Çagla Ilk, will not have her contract renewed. The Museum is looking forward to the new direction under the leadership of Catalano, Giordano, Köhne, and Schulenburg. Two exhibitions are planned for the Museum: one by Mehtap Baydu and Egemen Demirci, opening on June 27, and "Own Place, Other Time" on the 75th anniversary of the Baden-Württemberg Artists' Association in October.
