Agreement Reached for Joint Bath Installation in Hamburg-Süd: Memorandum signed

The intermunicipal combination pool project between Harburg district and Neu Wulmstorf is progressing, with both parties taking responsibility to improve public swimming facilities in the region.

The planned location of the combination pool is in the Fischbeker Reethen near the border with Neu Wulmstorf. This shared or combined facility will serve both the district of Harburg and the municipality of Neu Wulmstorf, aiming to secure an offer for leisure, school, and sports swimming in the region.

The operation of the pool is set to be managed by Bäderland GmbH. The project is funded through a collaborative financing arrangement between the two municipalities, with additional support potentially coming from regional or state-level grants to support infrastructure development.

Sophie Fredenhagen, head of the district administration, and Tobias Handtke, mayor of Neu Wulmstorf, have signed a Letter of Intent for the intermunicipal combination pool. This step is an important one towards securing an appropriate offer for club and leisure swimming, as well as school and sports swimming in South Elbe.

The focus of the pool's construction and operation is on sustainability and resource conservation. The construction aims to optimize resource use, making it a model for eco-friendly swimming facilities.

Tobias Handtke, mayor of Neu Wulmstorf, states that the renovation of the indoor pool in Neu Wulmstorf has secured school and club swimming for their municipality. The combination pool will complement this, providing an outdoor pool offer for the summer months.

The combination pool is intended to be used as both an indoor pool in the cooler season and an outdoor pool in the summer. This versatility will ensure that residents have access to swimming facilities year-round, regardless of the weather.

The project is currently in the planning phase, with construction expected to begin within the next year and the pool targeted to open approximately 1 to 2 years thereafter. The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the municipality of Neu Wulmstorf are looking forward to providing improved swimming facilities for the region.

The combination pool, planned near the border of Harburg district and Neu Wulmstorf, will not only boost public swimming facilities but also offer an 'other lifestyle' option. With its versatility as both an indoor and outdoor pool, it will serve as a new 'home-and-garden' attraction for the region's residents, providing an 'outdoor-living' experience during the summer months.
