Advancement in the construction of the new mountain road for men: development steps are on track
The renovation of the New Mensa, located on Bergstraße in Dresden, is underway and scheduled to open in September 2024. This modern canteen, complete with a terrace, is being added to the city's heritage-protected area.
The project, led by construction manager Christian Schneider, has been ongoing since 2020. The current estimated costs for the renovation stand at 38 million euros. The facade and floor covering have been completed, but the interior equipment, such as furniture, is still pending.
Once open, the renovated New Mensa will replace the interim canteen Zeltschloss, serving around 4,200 meals daily, making it the largest student canteen in Dresden. Upon its opening, Zeltschloss will be dismantled.
The progress of the renovation, however, remains unclear. Public updates on the project's status or expected opening date have not been officially published. For the most accurate and up-to-date details, it is recommended to contact the Studentenwerk Dresden directly.
In the meantime, the interim canteen Zeltschloss has been serving students since the closure of the new canteen. The exact timeline for the completion of the renovation remains uncertain.
